(Can you imagine Beavis and Butt-Head watching TikTok?) That didn’t leave a lot of time for jokes about what Beavis and Butt-Head might think of life in the 2020s. The movie was mostly a chase film, with various people from NASA and the government looking for Beavis and Butt-Head. The two actually wound up going into outer space, and then through a black hole, at which point they were deposited in the year 2022. Sometimes, when the real world is giving us such a grave emotional pounding, it’s exactly what you need.The recent Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe movie on Paramount+ didn’t just feature the ’90s favorite teenage doofuses in one of their typical (and stupid) adventures. Still, even though being smart is back in fashion, Judge reminds us with the first two episodes provided to critics that sometimes it’s okay to hang out on the couch and giggle over nonsense with your buddies. “Almost 30 years after its original premiere, we’re far removed from the slacker culture in which Beavis and Butt-Head first thrived. In her A- review, our own Carys Anderson wrote, So far, the revived series has been a mix of old pleasures and new surprises, including Beavis’ enlistment in BTS Army. What follows is a classic bit of slapstick that wouldn’t have been out of place in golden age silent movie. Beavis is feeling a little snackish, and luckily he spots a tasty treat: a gummy worm, or so he thinks. The clip opens with everyone’s favorite butt munchers paddling down the river like Huck Finn (more like, ‘Suck my Finn,’ heh heh heh). The third episode of the revived series premieres tomorrow, August 11th on Paramount+, but to hold you over, you can check out 80 seconds of pure silliness below.
